JENNETS

We have a collection of small, nicely built, in my humble opinion, beautiful jennets at our farm.  All but one of our jennets are less than 32".  They range in size from approximately 26" to 31.75"  - most are less than 31", and are of a medium to drafty build, with colors ranging from silver to black, along with spotted and red.  Our personal preference is small and stocky, so our herd has been built on this preference.

I predominately breed for dark spotted and red, along with very dark colors, but I also have a few small gray jennets to preserve the integrity and pedigree of the miniature Mediterranean gray donkey.  In my opinion, there is nothing prettier than a small, stocky gray donkey.

I have carefully selected and produced our donkeys for conformation - overall balance, good legs, nice wide chests, round butts, small, pretty heads and good teeth.  I adore pretty heads and compact, stocky body types!  I admire all beautiful donkeys - my preference just happens to be compact and small.

Our goal is to produce a donkey with small size, very nice conformation, along with beautiful color and an excellent, loving personality.  We want our donkeys to be a pleasure to own, provide companionship and entertainment, along with being flashy little spots of color for your pasture.

Low-Down's Nicoletta
Dark Spotted
Nicoletta Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
This exquisite, tiny jennet is the daughter of Chloe (black) and Oscar Wilde (dark spotted).  I am very pleased with Nicoletta - she is dainty and petite, yet very sturdy, with a spunky personality.  I don't expect Nicoletta to mature past 29" at most.  She has definitely taken the tiny size from her grandsire, GP Oscar, and appears to be black/white spotted, now that she is shedding out this summer.

Low-Down's Molly Grace
Black with cross NLP
Molly Grace Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
I swore I was going to "share" all my 2008 foals, but when this little bundle of cuteness stood up, I just couldn't part with her.  Above is a photo of Molly G, roughly clipped out and just starting to shed out to her black color.  She is so pretty and correct, and such a little clown.  I expect Molly to mature around 31" and she will be matched with Pepe Petit late this year.

Low-Down's Shooting Star
30" Dark Red
Shooting Star Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Shooting Star is another outstanding Carlos (black) daughter, out of little Teaspoon.  She is small and very correct, with lots of presence and a huge fleur de lis shaped white marking on her forehead.   She is currently pastured with dark red, Pep-R-Oni for a 2011 foal.

Low-Down's Issabella Mia
30.5" Black/Brown
Izzy Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
The Izz, as I call her, is an outgoing little character, along with being one of my extra spoiled little brats.  I say that in fondness.  Izz is very drafty, compact, but with a great, wide chest and rump.  When she sheds out for the summer, Izz is just one shade shy of being black.

Low-Down's Diamonds and Lace
30" Spotted
Lacey Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Very flashy and nice - Lacey is another spoiled little brat that makes me smile.  Her dam is Esprit (spotted) and her sire is Itsy Bitsy LN Black Flag (black/brown).  She carries predominately dark and red on her sire's side - LN breeding, and dark and spotted on the dam's side, which includes the Someday's Caesar bloodline.  We lost Lacey and Graphite's very tiny black spotted foal, due to being positioned incorrectly.  Lacey is matched with Wee Hoof's Derby Winner, a small, very dark jack with a nice pedigree, and I'm hoping the breeding took.

Low-Down's Queen of Hearts
31.75" Dark Brown
Queen Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Queen is an exceptionally nice jennet with a very beautiful face and expressive eyes.  Her dam is Windcrest Little Abigail (brown/dark gray/white spotted), and her sire is MJB Jack of Spades (Merlin), black/brown.  Queen has produced two exceptionally nice, loud spotted foals for us.  She has been matched with Pepe Petit for a fall 2010 foal.

Low-Down's Fortune Cookie
Black/Brown
Cookie Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Fortune Cookie is a beautiful jennet - just one shade away from black and you can only faintly pick out a cross..  Her sire is dark red, Stoney Acres Shaker and her dam is black/brown 758's Sarabella.  Cookie should mature at approximately 31"/

Eola Hill's Jilly Anne
28.25" Red Jennet
Jilly Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
This tiny red jennet (she's recently clipped down to gray) fits in perfectly at our farm.  Her dam is a tiny silver jennet with red in the background - sire is Flight of Fancy Cardinal RG - 30.5" red.  She has many nice donkeys in her background, including Jennie Sam, Sunset Acres Lady Slipper, My World Mindy and Buster.  Jilly will be paired with dark red, Pep-R-Oni.

DuPlessis Farm's Chloe
28" Dark Gray Jennet
Chloe Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
This very feminine little jennet comes from a long line of tiny donkeys.  Chloe has always produced tiny gray jennets, as she has only been bred to a gray jack in the past.  Her last foal, Dulce, was 16" at birth and now resides in France with Carole De Koster.  Chloe was matched with Pepe Petit in fall 09, and I am really looking forward to her tiny foal.  Chloe is a "yard donkey".  She does not want to be part of the herd, so she and a jennet buddy have separate quarters from the jennet herd.  Every morning they call to me and rattle the gate.  I let them out and they wander around the 5 acre yard and trim the grass and weeds.  They have never munched on any of my shrubs or flowers.  When it's evening and time to feed, the two girls come back to their paddock for their evening feed and hay.

Satroma Ranch Walnut Blondie
29" Light Red
Blondie Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Blondie is the cutest light red jennet - compact and stocky.   Blondie  has produced two very nice red foals for us - both sired by Pep-R-Oni, and both to France.  Blondie has once again been matched with Pep-R-Oni, and I am really hoping for a jennet foal in spring 2011.

Cluskey's Merlin MerryBelle
29.5" Red
MerryBelle fits right in with our herd - small, stocky and correct with a pretty little head.   Merry's sire is Heiken's Ark Merlin, dam is Fisher's Cherry Blend, along with many nice donkeys in the background, including Eric the Red, Valentino 50, 45 Magnum, Papa's Money.

Hauenstein's Esprit
31.25" Gray/Tan/White Spotted
Esprit Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Esprit is an all around nice spotted jennet - Someday's Caesar granddaughter.  I adore the foals Esprit produces.  Even though Esprit is one of our largest jennets, her foals are always very small and very stocky.  We have retained both her daughters, Diamonds and Lace and Issabella Mia for our breeding program.  Esprit was matched with black/brown Derby Winner for an early summer 2011 foal.  I registered Esprit at 31.75", but re-measured her recently and got 31.25".  Who knows where my mind was?

758's Sarabella
30.5" Smokey Black/Brown NLP
Sarabella Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Sarabella is a nice jennet that produces very nice foals, both dark and bright, dark red.  We have retained her daughter, Fortune Cookie.  Sarabella's dam is black, 758's Sarah's Girl, her sire is dark red, LN Star Spangled Banner.  Sarabella was matched with dark spotted Pepe Petit for an early fall foal, as he is red based also and should create the possibility of spotted or red.

Meyerland Tanta Anna
31.5" Brown/Gray/White Spotted
Tawna Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Tawna, as we call her, is an outstanding jennet, very correct and very stocky.  She has proven herself by producing beautiful foals, time after time.  Tawna was matched with black/brown Derby Winner for a late spring 2011 foal.

GP Lucy
30.25" Gray Dun
Lucy Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Lucy is one of my favorites, even though she is our oldest jennet.  She is a small, stocky jennet that produces excellent, tiny foals.  Lucy's sire is GP Cool Hand Luke.  Lucy was matched with dark spotted, Pepe Petit for a spring, 2011 foal.

Li'l Angels Chloe
31.5" Black
Chloe Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Chloe is very nice and produces beautiful babies.  When she sheds out in the summer, she is very black with no visible cross.  Like most black donkeys, she gets rusty colored when she bleaches out in the hot sun and looks brownish.  Her dam is Elm's Hedy Lamar (dark brown w/red background - red producer) and her sire is MGF Primero (black/white spotted).  Chloe has produced two outstanding foals - we retained Nicoletta for our herd, and Chloe will be matched with Pepe Petit this fall.

Country Place Diamond Belle
31.25" Dark Red
Diamond Belle Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Diamond Belle is a pretty, very sturdy jennet - dark, bright red without the face roaning.  She produces bright red, pretty foals with the same solid face.  Diamond Belle will pasture with Pep-R-Oni this fall.

Country Music's Janis Joplin
30" Brown
Janis Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
This pretty little jennet is a George Jones daughter and has been matched with dark brown spotted, Pepe Petit for a winter 2010 foal.  Janis is very stocky and compact, with a beautiful head.  Both Janis and Pepe carry red in their close backgrounds.

Republican's Pequena Priscilla
30" Dark Brown Jennet
Priscilla Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Priscilla is a George Jones great granddaughter, with many more nice, small donkeys in her pedigree, including GP Cool Hand Luke, Fisher's Tiny Gideon and the Someday's lineage.  She is a little more refined than I prefer, but has the prettiest little head, and most of the qualities I look for in a jennet.  Priscilla is registered at 30.75", but measures less than 30".

Sunset Acres Mona Lisa
31.25" Black NLP Jennet
Mona Lisa Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Mona Lisa is a stocky black jennet that has produced very nice foals - she is a Circle C Black Russian (black) x Sunset Acres Zelda (black) daughter. Mona Lisa is bred to Pepe Petit for a winter 2010 foal.  This foal is promised to Jane DuPlessis in California.

DuPlessis Farm's Black Jazzy Anna
31" Black w/Cross Jennet
Jazzy Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Jazzy produced an outstanding dark spotted jennet foal with Pepe Petit; we repeated this match for a December 2010 foal.  Jazzy is a Windcrest It's A Wrap (black) x Wee Friends Belle (dark brown) daughter.  The photo on the left shows her last jennet foal, sired by Pepe Petit - I'm hoping for a repeat.

Hauenstein's Teaspoon
29.75" Dark Red/Brown Jennet
Teaspoon Pedigree
(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Teaspoon is a precious, tiny jennet that always produces small, dark red foals.  She has even produced red, matched with black.  Teaspoon's grandsire and great grand on her maternal side are 27" Someday's Cadillac Jack and 26.5" Someday's Sorentino.

MHT Alice
29.5" Brown
Alice Pedigree

(open pedigree, click anywhere on form and pedigree will enlarge)
Alice is a tiny cutie pie.  She is one of our older jennets and no longer has the best of rear legs, but her foals have all been exceptionally nice and square.  Even though she is tiny, she has a very stocky body, a good broad chest and rear end, and a small, pretty head.  Alice was matched with dark spotted Pepe Petit for an early fall 2010 foal.
