HERD SIRES

Allow us to introduce Sparkplug, our dark red herd sire, along with our newest herd sire, Brodie. We have recently sold Pepe (dark brown/white spotted), but have several foals due in 2012, that are sired by him. These jacks are very correct, very small, and have a particular look that we like. Each of our herd sires are dna typed and micro chipped (Brodie's dna and color typing for red are pending). We are very particular about our donkeys and demand that our jacks produce as well, or better than themselves. We couldn't ask for nicer foals than Pepe is producing, along with fabulous foals from Sparkplug. Brodie has been matched with a few jennets this fall, so we will see foals from him in 2012.

We have sold several of our nice donkeys, including some spectacular herd sires. No matter how nice the jack, we prefer to keep our number of jacks in proportion to our number of jennets when possible. Having enough jennets for each jack promotes a happier, more content jack, thus more peace on the home front.

We will continue to concentrate on breeding for what we like the best, 28"-31" small, compact and correct miniature donkeys with cute little heads and sassy, spoiled personalities.

I sold Sparkplug to a friend several years ago, then bought him back to match with our red jennets. He is a very nice little jack - super square and correct. I absolutely love the rear on Sparks; he just has a particular look I like. Sparkplug's sire, Fireplug, continues to win "get of sire". Sparkplug recently produced three fabulous foals for us - all tiny, with superb conformation.

This little jack is just stunning. I couldn't ask for a prettier, wide and square donkey. Add in that he is so tiny, with wonderful conformation, I think this little guy is going to fit perfectly with our jennets. Brodie just shines with red highlights and I am in the process of testing him for red based color.

What a beautiful little guy - very small, compact and super square! The photo on the left shows Pepe's true, dark brown color; the photo on the right shows Pepe faded out and just starting to shed. With Pepe's red background, he has been producing a wide range of small, gorgeous foals from dark red to spotted, even black with no cross. We have even had a red spotted jennet foal from him. He has definitely proven himself as a superior herd sire. His foals always have a trademark, wide, straight rear.
